> How Can Credit Card Purchases Be Made Safe |
|
|
Credit
cards are used to buy goods and services even when you don't have the money
immediately on hand. Although there are certain risks to using a credit
card, credit card purchases can still be made safely.
Trust
Only use your credit card with sellers you know and trust. Many reputable
sellers will have verifications on their site, as well as encrypted
connections marked with a special logo in your browser. If you distrust a
seller even the slightest bit, don't buy from them. Look up a company's
standing with the Better Business Bureau for more information regarding its
trustworthiness.
Statements
Pay close attention and keep track of your monthly credit card statement. If
you ever notice a transaction that looks suspicious, first try to recount
the purchase and figure out what the transaction was. If you still are
unable to identify the transaction, contact your credit card company and
determine whether further action needs to be taken. Keeping your receipts
will help you remember what purchases you made and when you made them.
Personal Information
Never give out your credit card number, passwords or PIN (Personal
Identification Number) over e-mail. This is a very risky, dangerous action
that could result in identity theft. If you wouldn't give the information to
a stranger over the phone or in person, don't give it out online either.
This is your private account information that should remain that way.
Considerations
Visit your credit card company's website for more specific information
regarding your credit card, the protection they provide and other tips on
keeping your personal finances safe.
