> How to Add a New Credit Card or Debit Card |
|
|
You
can add a new credit or debit card simply by applying and being approved.
See your bank or credit union for credit and debit card offers. There are
cards for nearly all situations, including cards for students and people
with bad credit. You can also choose from prepaid debit cards and even
secured credit cards that require you to make a bank deposit to activate
your credit line.
Instructions
Step 1
Apply for a debit card. Most debit cards are tied to a checking account at a
bank or credit union. The checking account is opened first, followed by the
debit account. Other companies market prepaid debit cards not tied directly
to a bank. Many of the prepaid cards are sold in retail, payday loan and
check cashing stores.
Step 2
Apply for an unsecured credit card. Unsecured credit cards don't require any
collateral, such as depositing money into a savings account. Virtually all
banks and credit unions offer them. Ask at your bank for an application.
Step 3
Apply for a secured credit card. Ask your bank about secured credit cards as
well. In most cases, your credit line will match the amount you have on
deposit. People trying to rebuild or establish their credit often are drawn
to secured cards.
